Google's video platform YouTube, exactly 6 years ago (15 February 2015) YouTube Kids app finally started to use in Turkey. App Store for iOS and Android devices on Google Play and YouTube replaces Kids, opened on April 21, 2021 to use Turkey as well.

YouTube Kids, a platform separate from YouTube, has its own website (https://www.youtubekids.com/) as well as iOS and Android applications.

YouTube Kids (YT Kids), which has been used by families and children in 44 different languages in 106 countries to date, is a separate application specially designed for children.

Aiming to provide a safer digital experience, the YouTube Kids app helps children explore new content and interests on their own, while helping parents guide them.

Children find the opportunity to learn about new content and have fun with the channels and playlists in the categories in YouTube Kids. Some of the various categories under YouTube Kids are: Learning & Hobbies, Arts & Crafts, YouTubers & Family Vloggers, Music & Dance, Toys & Games.

8 DIFFERENT PROFILES CAN BE CREATED

YouTube Kids can create a personal profile for your child, and up to 8 child profiles can be created by logging in. Each of these profiles can have different content, video suggestions and settings.

3 DIFFERENT MODES BY AGE

YouTube Kids, which allows children to choose the level of content suitable for their age, has 3 different modes for this: Preschool Mode, designed for children aged 4 and under, includes videos that encourage creativity, fun, learning and exploring. “Little Mode” focuses on children's interests between the ages of 5 and 7 on a variety of topics such as songs, cartoons and crafts. The "Big Mode" provides additional content for children aged 8-12, such as popular music and game videos.

Parents can choose the videos, channels or collections they want their kids to watch on YouTube Kids. To change the settings, they can choose their kid-specific profile and select only the approved content option. Then they come across a range of channels, collections and videos to choose from. Collections can be used to select content that children can watch while using the "Approved Content Only" mode.

Parents can approve a selection of channels from Collections, YouTube's partners, and the YouTube Kids team, grouped by topics such as science, music, learning, and reading. Children cannot search within the app in this mode. If this option is chosen, the content that children are asked to see can also be determined by age group.

OPTION TO TURN THE SEARCH FUNCTION OFF

Parents who want to limit their children's experience to more restricted content can turn off the "Search" function using parental settings. When the search is turned off, kids cannot search for videos and are limited to content verified by YouTube Kids.

VIDEO AND CHANNELS YOU SAY 'DO NOT WATCH' CAN BE BLOCKED

You can personalize the content you see in the YouTube Kids application by logging in to the application and blocking the videos or channels you do not want children to watch. If a video or channel is blocked, the video will no longer appear when logged into YouTube Kids apps.

When you change your mind, you can clear blocked videos and channels at any time. However, it should be kept in mind that a blocked video may become accessible in the application if it is uploaded by another channel.

SETTING THE SCREEN TIME WITH THE TIMER

The "built-in timer" in YouTube Kids allows children to limit the time spent in front of the screen by telling them that the viewing time is over. When the session ends, the timer stops the application, displaying the alarm "Your time is up". The limit can be set by clicking the "lock" icon, then selecting "timer" and using the slider bar.

SEE WHAT YOU WATCH

Through the viewing history, what children watch and the most recently discovered interests can be checked. By clicking on the tiny signboard that appears at the bottom left of the main page, the videos watched by the children can be seen.
